Biography —
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
- James Baldwin
Michael joined CAPS in August 2025 as a psychology intern, bringing with him more than six years of clinical experience in providing a variety of psychological services to individuals from all walks of life. He earned his B.A. in psychology and sociology from Austin College (Sherman, TX) in 2019 and is currently completing his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA).
Michael firmly believes that all people are entitled to be themselves. He is committed to empowering students to discover who they are, pursue who they want to become, and thrive in their lives. He utilizes psychodynamic therapy to understand students’ lived experiences, help them break free from restrictive patterns, and create a life that feels personally meaningful. Additionally, Michael believes that a person’s worldview – the way someone thinks, feels, and acts – is shaped not only by personal experiences but also by how the world has historically treated their inherited traits and personal background. Therefore, he actively works to transform rigid systems into encouraging communities that support all people.
Outside the office, Michael enjoys spending time with family, especially playing with his toddler, whom he calls his “loving tornado.” He also loves playing video games and watching movies, while his three cats loaf themselves in his way. A passionate fan of basketball and football, Michael looks forward to cheering on his fellow Jayhawks and proudly calls Lawrence his new home.
