The University of Kansas provides support to survivors of gender-based violence (e.g. sexual assault, violence and harassment; stalking; intimate partner/domestic violence; use of alcohol to gain sexual access). The main role of CARE services is to provide institutional support for students who have been impacted by interpersonal violence.
All Support from CARE services is free, confidential and optional. CARE staff are not mandated to report incidents to any University officials or the police. Some services include:
- providing supportive counseling, information about options and assistance in accessing medical and/or mental health care
- helping navigate campus and community resources
- offering support during reporting processes (both KU and criminal)
- and requesting interim measures that respond to academic, safety or housing needs
If you or someone you know has been affected by any form of gender-based violence, please don’t hesitate to reach out by emailing care@ku.edu or calling 785-864-9255.
If urgent or after-hours, the Sexual Trauma & Abuse Care Center is available by phone 24/7 to provide survivor support and assistance: 785-843-8985.

In addition to the exam, they can also provide access to emergency contraception and STI prophylaxis.
Someone who has experienced sexual assault can go directly to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) Emergency Department at 325 Maine Street for care (24/7): 785-505-5000.
Trained advocates from The Sexual Trauma & Abuse Care Center are available 24/7 to meet you at the hospital, answer questions and provide support: 785-843-8985.
If transportation to LMH Health is needed, please call the KU Public Safety Office at 785-864-5900.
