If you or someone you know is in crisis or has urgent needs, help is available 24/7. During CAPS business hours, drop-in appointments are available by coming into CAPS and letting the front desk know that you need an urgent appointment. After business hours, you can call or text 988 or access any of the resources in the boxes below.

  • If you believe your life is in imminent danger and you cannot keep yourself safe, or you or someone else has decided to seriously harm or kill yourself/themselves or someone else, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room, Lawrence Memorial Hospital (325 Maine St., Lawrence, KS 66044) or the Douglas County Treatment & Recovery Center (1000 W 2nd St., Lawrence, KS 66044). 

  • The Lawrence Mobile Response Team (MRT) is also available to come directly to the student to assess the situation and decide what the next steps are. To access the MRT, contact the Kansas Suicide Prevention Headquarters 785-841-2345

KU CARE Coordinator

The CARE Coordinator is here to support student-survivors and help them navigate university and community systems. CARE Coordinator services are free, confidential, and optional. Support is available to students of all identities and experiences. The CARE Coordinator is not mandated to report incidents to university officials or the police.

CARE services are generally available Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
