You will be seen the same day if it all possible. If all available appointments for the day are taken, you may be asked to return the next day. Please let the receptionist know if you have an urgent need and need to be seen before the next day.

What should I expect during my visit?

It is best to allow at least 2 hours of available time in your schedule at the point you walk in.The first visit usually lasts about 30 minutes. It is focused on understanding the nature of the concern and clarifying goals and expectations. Students are encouraged to participate actively in determining the services that may be most useful to accomplish their goals. The therapist will be glad to respond to any questions. Usually by the end of the first session an agreement is reached regarding the next steps to take. In some instances the student will continue with the initial therapist; however students may be referred to another therapist or service that better addresses their needs.

CAPS professional staff consists of licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, board certified psychiatrists, graduate psychology interns, and other graduate students in training. Graduate students receive individual and group supervision by licensed senior staff.
